They were young enough to believe forever was guaranteed, until the “what if's” became reality. Years later, you can still smell the dark rum abandoned in a broken glass, the dried roses tucked inside a forgotten journal, and the cedar shelves lined with remedies. The cool spices drift through the air like golden specks. All too familiar, but for the life of me.. I cannot remember.
